Well a little more groping, but yea.

[It all depended with the mutant. In this case, it was because it was good. Could be a bit spicier for her tastes, but it was still good.]

And that is just the people that wanted to perform. I don't think, except that first day, I've even seen a good portion of us. And more coming in too.[She chuckled.]

They are going to run out of places to stick us in.

I'll say. The places that have opened up to us are at least plentiful in resources, but I'd imagine if new Gembonded keep coming in big batches, they'll start to be sort of concerned or at least complain to Malachite.

On the other hand, you'll have more audience members and future musical rivals. Good tradeoff, wouldn't you say?

I think there is more, like the Underground. None of the locals seem to be concerned, ya know? [She seemed to be bumping up against an idea.]

I'm not complaining about that possibility. [A flash of a grin.] Just as long as I don't get a roommate. I'd have no idea where to stuff them.

[ Monts is nearly done with her drink now, possibly thinking of getting that Negroni if they're able to create that cocktail on this planet. ]

Are you still in the provided housing? My roommates are a couple and they're already aiming for a bigger place for the three of us.

Yea, not the low tier one but the nicer one. One reason I got a smaller place, it barely qualifies as a single it is almost an efficiency but it is cheap. And I can manage the Mana cost.

[finishing hers and setting the glass near the edge of the table. Gesturing idly with her free hand.]

Makes sense. It seems a lot of people were going to move out once the Gems decided we could be allowed to. I thought about it too, but even with a better place it would be to much just for me. I don't need all that much.

[A laugh.] I remember you told me about them. Now I don't blame y'all a bit for finding something a bit large. I want to say, you said it was a pretty tight fit. Found anything yet?

I believe Hua Cheng mentioned that the lease was signed so I'll just be ready to move out when he is. I'm trying to manage costs for the things I need so I don't have too much to pack when the time comes.

[ Speaking of Manna though... ]

... I wanted to ask.. And don't answer if you don't want, but have you done a lot of Synchrony with anyone or other people yet?

Good plan. If you do need a hand though, let me know. I should be able to help, there isn't anything on my day to day that is set in stone, ya know.

[A bit of a blink at the question. Then she gave a low chuckle.]

Mostly like we did at the bonfire. Though in a bath in Solare I met someone and it was pretty intense. [She had a small smile at the memory, giving her head a little shake.] We didn't have sex or anything, but it was overwhelming?

[ She laughs a bit when Anna mentions the Solare baths because she also had a non-sexual encounter, but it was tenser for her than anything. ]

That so? Honestly, I'm mostly curious if nothing else. Like, maybe I'm trying to find out what the general mood is about Syncing. I get the impression that I'm being way too reserved even for myself.

[ Monts feels she has good reasons though even if it'll impede her more than helping her. ]

Yea, it was...innocent I guess, and gave me a lot to think about. [Taking a deep breath] I don't know if I would call it a mood really. For me it just happens, not all the time, but a lot of time when I touch someone when talking about something . Maybe it is easier if I know the person to have emotions about them?

[ There is A Lot going on when it comes to her particular headspace, but Monts wants to simplify it for the sake of casual conversation. ]

I'm all about friendly flirting just for fun, but I haven't put much thought into pursuing a serious relationship back home. Here it's like...

[ Monts takes a big sip of her drink to finish it off before continuing. ]

Maybe I don't trust anyone enough here; on a surface level maybe. There are some people who are perfectly fine holding my hand for Synchrony.

[ Like Hua Cheng and Cloud was a grumpy albeit willing participant. ]

Remember how I don't feel pain? Trusting someone with touch kind of hits different for me in a way.

[The girl listened with half lidded eyes, and nodding a bit in understanding at some of it. After all it wasn't too terribly different from her own struggles with the entire bit. Mulling it over before answering.]

Well trust does help I think, but I hadn't looked at it that way to be honest. l definitely was more opposed to the, ah...more intimate way of getting the Synch because of my situation back home. [A pause, giving a bit of a sigh. There was a lot of to it.] So there is something to being in the right headspace for it.

I guess this might sound like a personal question, but that problem trusting people with touch because you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between pain and...well good touches? [Wrinkling her nose at the way it sounded when it came out of her mouth.]

Oh, no, it's quite easy to tell even if I can't feel it. It's a little disturbing, but it's not like I'll still have googly eyes for someone after they've broken my arm or something. I don't appreciate the few seconds or minutes where I can't move you know.

And I have a sense of touch and taste so I can distinguish between textures, warm and cold, etcetera. Just can't tell if something is damaging me.

[ Monts leans back in her seat trying to think of another way to explain it. ]

... It's more akin to the fact that I depend on what emotions I have at the moment which probably makes me more vulnerable. More in my head so to speak.

Huh. [Leaning back and really thinking now.]

That does make sense. From what I've experienced it is a sharing of emotions, even for the light stuff, so it isn't just you. [Tapping her chin as an idea did come to her.] And I guess it wouldn't have to be just 'good' emotions either.

Another way to put it is... [ Monts pauses as if what she wants to share sounds like too much. But she can get past it at this moment. Anna's been nothing, but a good listener since they've first met. ]

I might not know what it's like to be in physical pain, but then all I'm familiar with is getting my feelings hurt.

That does help. [Regarding the other woman closely.] I don't see an easy answer though, besides getting to know more people and knowing who you can trust and Synching with them. That would work for the smaller stuff.

Plus, it didn't seem that...'deep'? to me. Like sharing a smile over a joke or something, so I wouldn't think it would be that risky.

[One corner of her lip raised, looking rather bemused.]
Now the bigger stuff, that is going to be harder. I'm not really sure how to guard on that one, besides feeling comfortable just normally with the other person.

[Strumming the fingers of her other hand as she talked, trying to work it out.]

And probably learning how to be a little more flexible. I feel like I'm not usually like this, but then again I haven't pursued a relationship even when I was back home.

Well enough about me. Back to you and I'm gonna be cheeky about it this time. Anyone you've met besides that someone at the bath house that you like enough?

[Anna was going to ask another question, but Monts got cheeky.]

[She'd let Monts stew on that answer for just a bit, waiting until it looked like the other woman was about to object to being left hanging like that. The mutants eyes narrowed and she got that look in her eye.]

I'm sure you want details, but I've got to protect the innocent and all Monts. [Holding up one hand, and raised a finger for each.]
The one in the bath. Him for certain.
A woman I met when I first got here. She's very pretty, and very down to earth.
Another man I met a bit ago. I'm not sure if he would be game, and he is different from the other so it would be a little odd.
And this other girl I met. She's cute too, has a bit of a good trouble streak in her I think. But I don't know if she's open to something. But I do like her no matter what.

So that is [Counting her fingers dramatically.] Four I have Synced with in some way and wouldn't mind a bit if were a bit more.

Well, she's not going to try to be a Cool Girl, it's all in good fun. She listens to Anna's descriptions of the various people she's met and may or may not have Synched with. ]

Sounds like you've met a good variety of people so far. And had fun too, so good for you.

Looking back the past few weeks, I've realized I'm fairly... Picky. Lotta good looking people for sure though.

Picky isn't bad, it is good, though all bullshit aside are you getting enough to keep from the effects of not Synching? [If she did sound concerned, it was because she is. That possibility and conversations with a few made her rethink her approach to the process.]

[ She holds up her hands and wiggles her fingers to punctuate the joke. ]

[Giving a bit of a smile when Monts waggled her fingers.]

Probably not. I think I get it. What you were asking about earlier, it make sense now. All I know is how that was described to me sounds really, really bad. Feeling nothing at all is worse than possibly being hurt. [Anna spoke softly and with a bit of understanding in her voice. It was a different sort of choice that she had to make, but that didn't mean she didn't understand Monts' either.

The girl gave a smile, giving her friend a moment or two to think.]

Look, if you need to or even if you just want to, you can call me, ok? [Her hazel eyes on Monts to drive home the offer.] And I promise to close my eyes and look the other way so it isn't lewd. Deal?

Mm. Yeah, I kind of struggled to realize that. My boss had to point it out to me and I felt like an idiot for never getting it... Things that hurt your heart don't really heal, you just move on from it one way or another.

[ Iona had a way of pointing out the obvious that Monts was blind to.

She blinks at Anna's offer, pleasantly surprised. ]

Oh! That's very kind of you.

[ It occurs to Monts that if she wants to at least get by, asking people to hold hands wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. They're all bound by the system of Synchrony and Manna for the foreseeable future anyway. ]

Join the club, I feel like an idiot a lot more than I would like lately. [Giving a half roll of her eyes and a slight shrug.] Hell, I'm starting to think it is an occupational hazard of being here.

[A light laugh at the expression that she read on the other woman's face.]

Don't act all surprised. I like you, you're fun to talk to and I'd think it would be horrible if you ended up messed up 'cause you weren't able to take care of what you need to. So not lewd, lewd, lewd questioning...whatever you need. As long as you are staying, well healthy I guess would be the best way to put it.

[Anna actually hadn't ever thought of it like that until she voiced it that way. And really it seemed a perfect way to describe it, instead as some existential crisis. Gesturing to their empty glasses.]

Now you were telling me about this cocktail of yours, I want to try one.

Ha. Thanks, Anna.

[ Usually one wouldn't have to say it, but Anna's honesty was a bit refreshing. It wasn't overly blunt or in your face like some people she knew, but it was clear and present. ]

Alright, two Negroni's it is. I hope it's something that they know how to make here then.

[ Time to flag down a waiter so they can get those drinks which Monts does for the both of them. They're in luck! Two humble glasses of the drin are soon served to them and Monts nods approvingly at the orange peel garnish. ]

Now, this is nice. It doesn't look like much, but it's got a good deep flavor. I prefer taking my time with my drinks and this is one of them that's perfect for that.

Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase 'what are friends for?' doesn't it.

[Her words gave her some cover on how she felt about it. Not that she had any qualms with Syncing with Monts in whatever capacity, more the thought of the woman, or any of her other friends she had made here, being in that kind of situation.]

[Anna gave a lazy smile and listened in as her friend explained the drink and gave it a look over when they arrived.]

It looks high class, especially with the orange peel. [Giving Monts a playful glance. Raising the glass and taking a sniff, then a sip.] Not bad, not bad at all. Where did you pick this one up?
